POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Generalist coordinates day-to-day HR requests for assistance with recruiting, onboarding, benefits, employee relations, visas and other HR-related issues. This role works closely with the Director HR and Payroll Manager. The successful individual will build relationships with administrative staff, faculty, postdocs and students to provide information (Employment, Benefits, and Compensation). The ideal candidate is well organized with attention to detail, has strong customer-service and relationship management skills and a positive “can do” attitude.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide customer service to employees and management to answer a wide variety of human resources questions, resolve issues and provide information about human resources processes and programs in a timely fashion.
  • Manage schedules and logistics for the HR team including team meetings, HR Office hours, employee meetings, and employee trainings.
  • Process new hire and separation paperwork and data entry into HRIS and benefits websites.
  • Assist with employee onboarding for new hires, including managing communications, scheduling new hire orientations, and following up with new hires and managers to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
  • Coordinate employee benefits election process, including managing communications with new hires to ensure benefits are elected in proper time frame.
  • Act as first contact and triage employee relations issues, either resolving the issue or escalating the concern to HR Director.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate human resources files, records, and information, ensuring that both electronic and paper filing is kept current.
  • Develop HR email/marketing messages to both internal and external audiences, employing cultural sensitivity as appropriate.
  • Help with HR compliance including benefits audits, EEO1 reporting and Employee Handbook updates.
  • Support processing visas for foreign national candidates.
  • Assist with organizing employee and company events.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS degree (HR or Business Management preferred) or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 4+ years’ experience in HR; prior background in HR, recruiting, education or other people-focused professions preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects and day-to-day operations accurately, independently and proactively while meeting established deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle issues of a sensitive nature with tact and discretion
  • Flexible, adaptable and takes initiative
  • Knowledge of the life sciences is not required; however, intellectual curiosity is essential
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs and technologically confident
  • Competent navigating new systems and websites; experience with data entry
  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong understanding of HR best practices and procedures
  • Experience with Jobvite ATS, Ceridian HRIS, UltiPro preferred
  • Experience working with employment based visa petitions and applications
